He has classic drop and drive mechanics and kicks his stride leg out a little farther then most. His fastball is a 4-seam with some run. His change is a straight change with some sink and is his best pitch that he will throw to lefties. It has excellent late sink and run and looks like a fastball out of his hand. His slider is an 11-4 offering with okay bite. His curveball is an 11-4 with good depth. I believe his slider is just a power curve, as they have similar movement. He looks to me like a # 5 starter or long reliever/swingman.

He throws to the middle of the plate too much and his command can be erratic. He has the tools to be a solid middle reliever down the road, but isn't quite ready.

He has some cocking action and almost short arms the ball from an over the top release. His fastball has some run and sink. His slider is a slurvy 1-7 offering with some late break and some bite that resembles a curve. His cutter is a 1-7 pitch with good late bite that moves like a slider. He has the tools to pitch in the back of a pen someday, but will likely be a middle reliever.

He will throw his change to righties and was primarily FB-CB-CU in this game after featuring his SL more in prior starts. Berken may be able to help you as a reliever if his fastball picks up a couple ticks, but he is not a starter.

Doesn't kill you as a swingman, but may be in the wrong organization, as I can't see him lasting the whole season with the arms they have on the way.

Watched some of Tommy Hanson's major league debut and watched Mitch Stetter face two hitters.

• Tommy Hanson is a 6-6, 220 pound right hander. The 22 year old has a big frame that can add a lot more muscle and can probably can get up to 240. He comes from a high 3/4 release with a little cocking and whiplike arm action. He has a moderate head jerk in his delievery. When he separates, he has a little pause with his arm up and then accelerates through. His fastball is a 4-seam with some fade and it will also flash some sink. His curveball is a 12-6 with good depth that he can throw for strikes or bury for strike 3. His slider is a sharp 2-7 that can show good bite, but can also be flat. It can also move like a cutter at times. His change was poor and the one threw was up and away from Prince Fielder. Hanson is a # 3 right now, as he has excellent control and above average command. His home runs he allowed were mistake fastballs that Ryan Braun and Mike Cameron didn't miss. He consistently got strike one with fastballs on the outside corner and even throws 3-2 breaking balls. He has the chance to be an ace if he can refine his command more, refine his consistency with his slider and develop an effective change, but I think he settles in as a strong # 2. A good comparison for him may be Jake Peavy.
