8th: FB (88-91), CU (81-84), SL (84)

  • Jesus Guzman is a 6-1, 215 pound righty hitting/throwing 1st basemen. The 25 year old has a medium frame that can add a little more muscle. He has a very slightly open stance with a toe tap and a bat wiggle where he holds his hands a little above his back shoulder. His trigger is a big leg kick with a cocking of the bat. He didn't show too much power and looks more of a gap hitter. He was replaced for a defensive replacement in the 7th, which shows you how much they like his defense. I think he is a tweener and his only use will be as a bench bat.

His fastball has some late run in on lefties. His slider is a sweeping 9-4 with above average bite. His curveball is an eephus pitch that is extremely slow with average depth. Should be a guy that can be a # 1 LOOGY for someone.
