Chart Observations: 9/13 NYM @ PHI

1) Kyle Kendrick: 106 pitches. (FB, SL, CU). 4 strikes swinging. 2 Fastballs, 2 Changeups.
  • Kendrick is a 6-3, 205 pound righty. The 25 year old has a medium frame that is long and lanky and can probably get up to about 220 if so desired. He came from a high 3/4 release in a classic drop and drive delivery that doesn't have any obvious red flags. He pauses quite a few times in the motion, which probably makes it difficult to repeat the mechanics consistently. His fastball is a sinker that has some run in on righties and some sink. His change has some fade from lefties and above average sink that he will throw to righties. His cutter has solid cutting action and that is the pitch we call a slider. # 4 or # 5 starter is his upside and he needs to continue to refine his off-speed offerings, as he has a tendency to leave them up in the zone.

6) Brad Lidge: 28 pitches. (FB, SL, CU). 1 strike swinging. Slider.

9th: FB (94-95), SL (85-87) - SL

  • Josh Thole is a 6-1, 205 pound catcher. The 22 year old lefty hitter, righty thrower has a medium frame that can add a little more muscle. He has a somewhat built lower half, but can add more muscle to it. He has a straight on, slap-hitter like stance with a little lean back on his back leg. His entire body is moving in a circle as he awaits the pitcher to begin his windup. His trigger is a hard step and a cocking of the bat. He is slightly choked up on the bat, sacrifing himself some power for some bat control. Slap hitter that is content with hitting a little line drive to the opposite field. He shows a little pull power, but is never going to hit more then 5 home runs in a season. Likely a back-up catcher along the lines of Greg Myers.

Chart Observations: 9/13 KC @ CLE

1) Carlos Carrasco: 79 pitches. (FB, CU, CB, SL). 7 strikes swinging. 4 Curveballs, 2 Fastballs, Changeup.
  • Carrasco is a 6-3, 215 pound righty. The 22 year old has a medium frame that appears to be maxed out, though he may be able to add a little more muscle to his lower body. He came from a high 3/4 release with a classic drop and drive delivery with pretty clean mechanics. His fastball has some run in on righties and a little sink. His change has some fade from lefties and a little sink that he will throw to righties. His curve is a 12-6 offering with above average depth. He should still be a solid starter, but likely more of an innings eater # 4 then a # 3.

4) Roman Colon: 30 pitches. (FB, SL, Split). 4 strikes swinging. 3 Fastballs, Slider.

  • Colon came from an over the top release and showed a pretty straight 4-seam fastball, a big breaking 2-7 slider with above average bite that can resemble a curveball and a splitter with a little dive.

7) Carlos Rosa: 11 pitches. (FB, SL, CU). 0 strikes swinging.

  • Rosa is a 6-1, 210 pound righty. The 24 year old has a medium frame that can add a little more muscle to his lower body, but not much. He came from an over the top release with a long arm action that puts extra stress on his shoulder. Also has some cocking action. His fastball is a pretty straight 4-seam. His slider is a 2-7 with solid bite. Looks like he could be a strong middle reliever with an outside shot of being a late inning guy.

Michael Brantley: To 1st: 4.4

Chart Observations: 9/13 CIN @ CHC

1) Ted Lilly: 119 pitches. (FB, SL, CU, CB). 10 strikes swinging. 7 Fastballs, 2 Sliders, Changeup.
  • Lilly came from a high 3/4 release and showed a fastball with good run in on lefties and some sink, a sweeping 10-5 slider with solid bite that he will throw 2-0, a big breaking 12-6 curve with plus depth and a change with good fade from righties and some sink that he will throw to lefties.

  • Bailey came from a high 3/4 release and showed a fastball with some run in on righties and some sink, a sharp 2-7 slider with above average bite, a split with some dive and a sharp 12-6 curve with above average depth that can be a strikeout pitch that he will throw 3-2.

7th: Cut (89-91), FB (87-88) - Cut, FB

5) Esmailin Caridad: 15 pitches. (FB, CB, CU). 1 strike swinging. Fastball.

  • Caridad is a 5-10, 195 pound righty. The 25 year old has a small frame that can add a little more muscle to about 205 if his listed weight is correct, which I don't think it is. Athletic build that can get stronger in the lower body. He came from a 3/4 release with fairly clean mechanics, though he does have almost a twisting arm action which has to put extra stress on it. His fastball has some run in on righties and some sink. His curve is a slurvy 2-7 with slightly below average depth. His change has some fade from lefties and some sink that he will throw to righties. Just a typical middle reliever who I think is pitching over his head right now.

7th: FB (90-93), CB (75-76), CU (86) - FB

6) Kevin Gregg: 13 pitches. (FB, SL, Split, Cut, CU). 1 strike swinging. Fastball.
