4/24: 14 pitches. 3 strikes swinging. 3 Sliders.
- Davidson is a 6-4, 210 pound lefty. The 28 year old has a big frame that may be maxed out, as he has an athletic build with an athletic, strong lower half. He is a sidearmer with fairly typical mechanics for that category of pitcher. His slider is a sweeping 9-4 with okay bite and is more of a side to side offering. His fastball has some natural tailing action in on righties, but is pretty straight for his release point. More of a 4-A guy, as his stuff just isn't good enough to be a LOOGY.

2) Kelvim Escobar: FB, CU, CB, Split, SL

- Escobar is a 6-1, 230 pound righty. The 33 year old has a medium frame that appears to be maxed out. He has an athletic build with an athletic looking lower half. He came from an over the top release in a fairly high effort delivery. His fastball is a pretty straight 4-seam that flashes good run in on righties and some sink. His curve is a sharp 12-6 offering with average depth. His split was pretty straight with a little diving action that served as his out pitch. It is late breaking and looks like a fastball out of his hand. His change is straight with a little fade from lefties and some sink. He will throw it in any count and will throw it to righties and it is the offspeed offering he has the most confidence in. He had solid command of his curve and change, but his fastball command was spotty and he only showed an ability to bounce the splitter. Is extremely slow to the plate (1.6 on a FB and stolen base) and doesn't give the catcher much of a chance on steals. He needs to incorporate a slide step or lower his leg kick. He looks like he could be a # 3 starter again, but he finds himself back in injury hell.

- Moseley is a 6-4, 215 pound righty. The 27 year old has a big frame that appears to be maxed out. He has an athletic build (sense a theme here with these Angels pitchers?) with an athletic, strong lower half. He came from a high 3/4 release with quiet, pretty clean mechanics. His fastball has good late run in on righties and some late sink. His change has some fade from lefties and some sink. His curve is a sharp 1-7 with below average depth, almost moves a little like a slider. Doesn't have an overpowering offering, so no true out pitch. Tries to sequence you (changeup away, fastball in; high fastball, bounced curve) and change eye levels to get strikeouts. He is a nice little pitcher, but he just doesn't have the stuff to be a starter or an overpowering offspeed offering to be a useful short reliever. As a team, this is a great guy to have in AAA to make some spot starts or fill gaps during an injury period, but that is the extent of his value.

- Ortega is a 6-0, 210 pound righty. The 24 year old righty has a small frame that is maxed out. Another athletic build with athletic, built lower half. He came from an over the top release with pretty clean mechanics. Classic drop and drive delivery. Very fast worker who gets the ball back and immediately gets back on the rubber. His fastball has some run in on righties and some sink. His slider is a sharp 2-7 with below average bite, just enough to miss the barrell. Slider is his out pitch. His change is straight with a little bit of sink and a little fade from lefties. His curve moves just like his slider with the same below average depth. Another of their 4-A pitchers, guys who should be on the shuttle between AAA and the majors as they just don't have enough stuff.

- Rodriguez is a 6-3, 215 pound righty. The 25 year old has a medium frame that appears to be maxed out. Another athletically built pitcher, but he has a skinnier lower half and may be able to add more muscle there. He came from a 3/4 release with a classic drop and drive delivery with pretty clean mechanics outside of a moderate head jerk. His fastball has a little run in on righties and a touch of sink. He can battle his fastball command, typically losing the pitch to the armside corner off the plate. His curve is a late breaking 12-6 with average depth. His change has some fade from righties and some sink. His cutter has good cut and a little sink. I think I like him better as a cutter, curveball reliever then using his 2-seamer that has only modest break. One to follow as he continues to develop his command.

- Shields is a 6-1, 180 pound righty. The 34 year old has a medium frame that can add a little more weight, especially in the lower half, but likely won't. He came from a high 3/4, almost over the top, with a max effort delivery. His curve is a sharp 12-6 with above average depth. His fastball has a little late run in on righties and some sink.

- Thompson is a 6-1, 180 pound righty. The 25 year old has a medium frame that can add a little more muscle to his lower half. He is another athletic build pitcher in the system. He came from an over the top release with a violent delivery that is max effort with a big head jerk. His fastball is a pretty straight 4-seam that flashes some run in on righties. His curve is a sharp 12-6 with slightly above average depth and has very good tilt. The curve is a plus pitch with excellent movement and is a true swing and miss offering. His change has some fade from lefties and some sink and shows some potential. I like this guy. I think he can be a set-up man eventually.
