Chart Observations: BOS @ TOR

1) Roy Halladay: 105 pitches. 8 strikes swinging. 4 on Cutters (1st, 2 in 2nd, 5th), 2 on Fastballs (4th, 5th) and 2 on Curveballs (4th, 7th)
  • Halladay came from an over the top release with a cutter that has solid cut, a fastball with above average run in on righties with good sink, a 12-6 curve with slightly above average depth that is sharp enough to be a strikeout pitch and a change with above average fade from lefties with above average sink that he will throw to righties. He has plus command that causes his pitches to play up. Don't listen to Buster Olney about fastballs, his main pitch is his cutter, though it can look like his fastball at times. It is amazing how often he stays away from the middle of the plate and generates weak contact with cutters on his gloveside (in on lefties, away from righties).

2) Jon Lester: 112 pitches. 11 strikes swinging. 3 on Fastballs (2nd, 3rd, 4th), 6 on Curveballs (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2 in 5th, 6th), Changeup (2nd), Cutter (2nd).

  • Lester is a 6-2, 190 pound lefty. The 25 year old has a medium frame that can get up to at least 205. He comes from an over the top release. His 4-seam fastball has some tail to it. His 2-seam fastball has some run in on lefties. His change has some sink and fade from righties. His cutter has good cut and some sink. His curve is an 11-5 with above average depth that is sharp enough to be a strikeout pitch. He likes to throw 2-seams in and 4-seams away from lefties and cutters in and changeups away to righties. Bona fide ace.
