Chart Observations: ARI @ SEA

  • Jon Garland comes from an over the top release and shows a 2-seam fastball with good sink and run, a change with good fade and sink, a cutter with good late cut, a 2-7 slider with good bite and a big breaking 12-5, 12-6 curve with good depth. He will throw his change to righties and likes to start his cutter on the outside corner and have it break off the plate.

  • Jarrod Washburn is a 6-1, 195 pound lefty. The 34 year old has a medium frame that can add a little more muscle. He comes from a high 3/4 release. His fastball is a 4 seam that is straight. His cutter has some cut and a little run. His change has good fade and sink. His slider is a 10-5 pitch with good bite that he throws to lefties and his curve is a big breaking 11-4 with good depth that is his breaking pitch to righties. He is a solid # 4 starter who is a perfect fit for Safeco.

  • Scott Schoeneweis come from a 3/4 release and shows a fastball with good run and sink and a sweeping 10-4 slider with solid bite.

  • Tony Pena comes from a high 3/4 release and shows a fastabll taht has some run and sink and a 2-7 slider that can have inconsistent bite.

8th: FB (96-98), SL (87-90)

  • David Aardsma comes from an over the top release and shows a 4-seam fastball with good run and a splitter that showed good diving action.
